La Sirena in Shadowlands
2026
La Sirena in Shadowlands a mythological half-woman, half horse celebrates both difference and Otherness through its hybrid identity. A figure of enchantment and allure, she embodies the strength and grace that exists between the earthly and the divine. Her presence within Shadowlands evokes both mystery and enchantment inviting the viewer to a direct encounter with the Marvellous. Emerging out the soft bodies of sea anemones, La Sirena in Shadowlands with her spiral tail, her hand held high holding a sword above her head, a shield near her heart dares existence to be static. Every changing, the Otherness of her energy reflects the deep bond of transformation of life, becoming a symbol of Otherness and metamorphosis. La Sirena in Shadowlands was created for the La Sirena Shadowlands project.
Eight of Hathaway’s photographs were digitally cut, blended, warped, and painted including The Mermaid Monument at the Old Town Market Place in Warsaw, Poland, the Anna Hyatt Huntington`s The Torchbearers` statue at the Chrysler Museum, The Needles from Isle of Wight England, sea anemones from the Chattanooga Aquarium, a protea flower from Hawaii, a collar from the Agatha Christe exhibition at the Hastings Museum & Art Gallery, and a sky from Hilversum in The Netherlands.
