The Mask of Seasons – Spring

Hathaway - Mask of Seasons

The Mask of Seasons – Summer

As the temperatures rise and the heat increases, the mask slowly changes and richly coloured topical flowers give the mask an intoxicating aroma. The ‘apapane, a native Hawaiian bird, darts in and out to savour the nectar from the ʻōhiʻa lehua flowers nested into brightly coloured protea. Warm sultry breezes stir the air around the mask with undertones of sea and salt air.

The Mask of Seasons – Fall

The sultry air gives way and cooler temperatures are welcomed. As temperate weather seeps into air, The Mask of Seasons responds by hosting the vivid yellow, orange and red colours of fall leaves. Birds mature from their nest begin to find their way southward no longer content since they know that change is coming. Only the hardy cardinals, chickadees and woodpeckers remain knowing that the crisp cold of winter is ahead. The tap, tap, tap of the woodpeckers alerts the wearer of The Mask of Seasons that it is fall and only the hardy survives.

The Mask of Seasons – Winter

Winter arrives and The Mask of Seasons responds. Holly leaves dotted with red berries appear and cold weather takes charge. Northern winds bring a crisp and deep cold while the leaves and berries become encrusted with snow and ice. Only the winter birds, the Jays, Cardinals and Robins find shelter in the mask appreciating whatever shelter can be found.
